JVS job, college fair a success

To the editor:

On Wednesday, the Jefferson County Joint Vocational School welcomed many local employers, college representatives and other important stakeholders to a job fair and college fair that provided an exciting evening of events for the students and parents from local communities. During the event, visitors were able to explore the training opportunities available at the JVS and hear information about career planning and career pathways from affiliated labor organizations. In addition, representatives from local unions were present to speak with students about future employment opportunities and apprenticeships.

These experts confirmed our mission, which is emphasizing the importance of career pathways and college planning for students. All of the career tech programs have articulated credit with local colleges and work closely with local unions and advisory groups. We have training opportunities in many professions and with the oil and gas industry having great economic potential for Jefferson and surrounding counties, jobs in the oil and gas industry were described, as well as the potential employment of trained students. I would like to thank the supporters of the JVS once again for recognizing the potential of the students who currently attend the school and those who will attend in the fall. At the JVS, we provide students a “great start” to enter college or the work force.

So, in closing, if your son or daughter is interested in pursuing an exciting, hands-on educational experience and related instruction that will equip them with the skills employers need, have them speak to our counselor about the programs offered at the JVS. Again, thank you to the vendors for providing the valuable information about your businesses and life-changing opportunities to the young people from our communities.
