Guns can save lives
To the editor:
Amidst all the national media attention being given to potential gun control measures, there are lives being saved by guns.
If you do your homework (because the mainstream media rarely reports these stories), you can routinely find verifiable stories of everyday citizens like you and me using legally owned firearms to save lives. It may be their life, the life of their children or maybe even a police officer.
One recent story happened on Jan. 4, when a mother in Loganville, Ga., started off her year with a “bang.” While working in her home office, she saw a man who alarmed her. Gathering her twins, they hid while the intruder was gaining entry to their home with the use of a crowbar.
Atlanta resident Paul Slater, a 32-year-old man with a long criminal history, found himself the recipient of multiple gunshots from the mother’s .38 revolver, after he found the family hiding in a crawl space. Slater attempted to flee the scene but crashed the car before collapsing in a driveway. He was arrested and transported to a local hospital.
The husband of the victim said he’s proud of his wife. “My wife is a hero. She protected her kids. She did what she was supposed to do as responsible, prepared gun owner.”
