Follansbee event celebrates season

For 16 years, the annual Christmas in the Park event held in Follansbee has offered residents of the Tri-State Area the chance to get an early start on the holiday season.

Held in October, the festival provides a fun time for area families and celebrates the holiday season’s spirit of giving, with proceeds being divided among local charitable organizations and the family of a local child.

Beneficiaries this year include the family of James Siudak, a third-grader who suffers from type 1 diabetes; the Anderson Children’s Home, which serves those with severe mental and physical impairments; and the Follansbee R.E.A.C.H. Program, which provides food to local residents throughout the year.

Each of the recipients received a check for $2,600 during Monday’s meeting of Follansbee Council. The money was raised through donations, giveaways and prize drawings and booth fees.

The people of Follansbee and everyone who attends the festival, as well as members of the planning committee, deserve to be commended for their generosity and for making the yearly event special.

And, we look forward to next October, when Follansbee will celebrate Christmas a couple of months early.
