Race a boost for Marland Heights
It is a summer tradition for Weirton.
In its 22nd year, the Marland Heights 5K Classic is a competitive race and a community event, bringing together athletes of all levels, as well as families. This year’s race is set for Friday at Marland Heights Park, and whether you are a seasoned runner, a beginner or just someone who wants to get in a bit of a walk, we hope you will take part.
There is still time to register, either filling out an application at the Millsop Community Center this week, or showing up prior to the race Friday evening. Races begin at 6:30 p.m., and will include the youth fun run, a two-mile fitness walk and the namesake 5K.
This year’s major sponsors are Steel and Wolfe Funeral Home, Hancock County Savings Bank, Thrasher Engineering and Weirton Medical Center. Additional support is provided by WesBanco; Starvaggi Industries; Galloway Law Offices; Studio L; Tri-State Pharmacy; Weirton Lumber; DeeJay’s; Mario’s; State Farm Insurance-Jack Fowler; FOP Lodge 84, Riesbeck’s; city of Weirton Police, Fire, EMS; Graphics in Print; Shop N Save; Charnie Insurance; Fox’s Pizza; Sheetz; Convenient Food Mart and In Remembrance of Sarah Smalley.
The Marland Heights 5K truly is something for the community, with many showing up each year to take part or just to cheer on family and friends.
We thank all of those participants, as well as organizers and sponsors, for continuing to make this a successful event.
We look forward to another great race.
