Celebration brings downtown alive

Our city’s annual week of food, fun and nostalgia will come to an end Saturday when the Steubenville Hometown Celebration is held along North Fourth Street.

The morning will feature the Dino Dash 5K run and Martin Meander, with proceeds going to benefit the Grand Theater restoration project.

It’s a day that will be filled with street vendors, live music and activities for area children.

Trolley tours of the city’s historic churches, the Jefferson County Historical Museum and other points of interest will be offered, and the event will include the Dean Martin Traveling Museum.

It will feature displays and hundreds of items related to Martin and will be set up in the lobby of the former Chase Bank location at the corner of Market and Fourth streets.

If you’re looking to remember Martin, clips of his films will be shown in Leonardo’s Coffeehouse and tribute artists will perform throughout the day.

Events wrap up with a street dance from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

The hometown celebration is a fitting way to help end what has traditionally been one of the busiest weeks of the year in the city. The 32nd-annual food festival held by the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church comes to an end this evening, and tribute artists will be performing tonight and Saturday at the Spot Bar as part of this year’s Dean Martin Festival.

Each of the events offers an opportunity for residents from around the region to appreciate Steubenville’s hertiage and show what makes it a special place to live.
