Parade brings magic to town

The magic of the Christmas season is alive and well in downtown Steubenville.

And, while thousands of residents of the Tri-State Area and beyond already have visited the Nurcacker Village and Advent Market at Historic Fort Steuben, many hundreds more will line Fourth Street in Steubenville Saturday for the Sights and Sounds of Christmas: Nutcracker Magic Parade.

Sponsored again by Eastern Gateway Community College, the parade will feature area marching bands and cheerleaders, dance groups, homecoing queens, colorful floats sponsored by community organizations and local businesses and, of course, Santa Claus.

Trinity Health System has been chosen as grand marshal for the event. A longtime supporter of activities throughout our area, Trinity is the presenting sponsor of the Nutcracker Village and Advent Market.

Those who attend the parade will have the opportunity to make the short walk to the corner of Market and Third streets and visit the village and market. It’s an attraction that has grown from 35 nutcrackers just two years ago to more than 150 life-sized creations. They’ll also be able to shop in the market and enjoy hayrides, a trip through downtown in the Holly Trolley and live entertainment.

The market will continue to run on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through Dec. 31, and the nutcrackers will remain on display through Jan. 7. Those attractions, plus events such as Saturday’s Christmas parade, help to bring people to our community and help to foster the spirit of the Christmas season.

We hope you’ll be able to make the time to visit downtown and experience it for yourself.
