Spirit of giving alive in Follansbee

Follansbee’s Christmas in the Park festival is more than just a fun time for families well ahead of the holidays.

This year, two local nonprofit groups and the family of a child with medical needs benefitted from the event.

The early October event is an annual harbinger of the holiday season. It gets people in the holiday spirit.

And the best representation of that spirit iis giving to others.

Beneficiaries this year included the Follansbee R.E.A.C.H. program, which provides food to local residents throughout the year, and the Anderson Children’s Home, a home to many children and adults with special needs. Also benefitting was Andrew Scheetz, a 13-year-old diabetic hoping to obtain an insulin pump to ease his need for taking insulin with each meal.

Donations are raised through booth fees, giveaways and prize drawings during Christmas in the Park, which showcases the wonderful city park.

We salute the people of Follansbee and those attending the festival for their generosity and the Christmas in the Park committee for making the event as special as it is year after year.
