Vote ‘yes’ for Hancock sheltered workshop

For years, the Hancock County Sheltered Workshop has strived to support a segment of our community which otherwise might not have very many opportunities.

By providing life skills training, a chance to work, transportation and more, almost 100 residents with disabilities have an opportunity to learn, earn a living and know they are valued.

It allows clients to be as independent as possible, building their self-esteem and their feelings of self-worth. The sheltered workshop has provided these programs for years, with support from residents of Hancock County. We encourage voters to allow that support to continue on Nov. 8 by passing the sheltered workshop levy set to appear on their ballots.

The levy is a renewal, helping to raise $250,000 each of its four years for the sheltered workshop.

Any funds brought in beyond the $250,000 will go toward recreational programs and facilities in Hancock County.

The bond levy is primarily focused on providing transportation services for the workshop’s clients, making certain they have a way to get to and from work.

Transportation is provided throughout the county, with clients in Weirton, New Cumberland, Newell and everywhere in between.

The Hancock County Sheltered Workshop Levy requires at least a 60 percent approval in order to continue. We urge the county’s residents to make sure these services, which are vital to so many, are able to continue.
