Thunder in the Ville early start to holiday

The annual Thunder in the Ville festival returns to Wintersville Friday and Saturday.

The event, which traditionally has served as the kickoff to the Independence Day celebration for the Tri-State Area, will again be held on the grounds of Indian Creek High School, with activities beginning at 6 p.m. Friday.

The two days of fun and camaraderie will include the much-anticipated fireworks show at 10 p.m. Saturday.

As always, there will be plenty of quality entertainment and a large selection of traditional festival foods and train rides available. The U.S. Kids are scheduled to perform from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, breaking at 10 p.m. for the fireworks. Organizers have promised that this year’s presentation will be more elaborate than ever.

It’s the first of several events in coming days that recognize the nation’s birthday by celebrating the freedom to gather, be entertained and enjoy friends and family.

We salute the organizers who have stuck with Thunder in the Ville through the years, as well as residents from throughout the region who make annual donations to the festival. The event is an example of what small towns can do with dedication, civic pride and active volunteers who give of their time and talents.
