Magdalene Pellior

Magdalene “Madge” Pellior, 96, a life-time resident of Toronto, OH, died December 7, 2018 at Trinity Medical Center West following a brief illness.

She was born July 22, 1922, daughter of the late Alex and Mary (Horkulic) Zdinak.

Mrs. Pellior was a member of the St. Joseph Byzantine Church in Toronto, the Ladies Guild and the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion. She was the ‘matriarch’ of the church congregation.Known affectionately as ‘Baba,’ she was a devoted, caring, and loving daughter, wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and ‘Czekia’ (aunt) to many nephews and nieces. She appreciated all of her neighbors on North Fifth Street who helped her through the years.

Madge was an avid sports fan and followed the Buckeyes, Steelers, Pirates and the Toronto Red Knights. She like the L.A. Lakers until Kobe Bryant retired.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Thomas J. Pellior; two sisters, Mary Tulencik and Ann Karaffa; and the brothers Zdinak, John, George, Elek, Mike and Pete.

She is survived by two sons, Thomas M. (Shirley) Pellior of Groveport, OH and David G. (Jane) Pellior of Athens, OH; a daughter, Mary Kay (Bruce) Hearne of Radcliff, KY; and sisters, Veronica Sutherin and Helen Scalley of Toronto. Madge is also survived by her six grandchildren, Keri (Brian) Benjamin, Tanya (Mike) Presser, Jill (Willy) Fisher, Josh (Felicite) Pellior, John (Danielle) Pellior, Kristin (Rob) Ray; and three special grandchildren; and 23 great- grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 12 from 3-7 p.m. at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto. Parastas Service will be held at 6:30 p.m.

Fr. John Kapitan will celebrate the Divine Liturgy of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Byzantine Church Thursday at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Toronto Union Cemetery.
