Kenneth Byres

Kenneth W. Byres passed away December 5, 2018 peacefully at home.

Ken is survived by his wife, Shannon of Prescott, AZ, their daughter, Charlotte of Phoenix, AZ, his Sister, Phyllis Lantz of New Cumberland, WV, and his Brother, Greg Byers and his wife, Terry of Winterville, OH.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Phil B. Byers and Doris L. Byers of Weirton, WV.

Ken was born on March 7, 1956 in Weirton, WV. He graduated from Brooke High School in 1974. He then served his apprenticeship and became a journeyman Electrician in the IBEW local Union 246, in Steubenville, OH.

In 1988, Ken moved to Arizona and began his broadcast career. He started at a small station in Coolidge, AZ -KCYA. Having never been in a radio station, he quickly realized this was his calling. He then took a position at KTAR in Phoenix, and learned all of the ins and outs of broadcasting. In 2001, Ken began his illustrious career with Arizona’s Hometown Radio Group in Prescott, AZ. He got to live out his dream of entertaining people and helping the community. Ken was passionate about his job and dedicated his life to it. Above all, he loved his co-workers and the people he met through his work. He volunteered with many local non-profits and it meant a lot to him to give back.

The family would like to thank Compassus Hospice and particularly, his hospice nurse, Christine, for all her dedication and support during these last few months.

A memorial service and celebration of Ken’s life was held, Friday December 7 2018 3 p.m. at Heights church 2121 Larry Caldwell Drive Prescott, Arizona 86301. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Ken’s name to the Elks Theater and Performing Arts Center 105 S. Cortez Street Prescott, Arizona 86301.
