Albert Zapor

Albert C. Zapor “Zip”, 89, formerly of Weirton, WV, and a resident of Myrtle Beach, SC, died Thursday, May 17, 2018, at home surrounded by his loving family.

His wife is the former Margaret J. Gilson. They were married August 30, 1969.

Born November 19, 1928, in Weirton, WV, he was the son of the late Stanley M. “Tut” and Antonina (Orwasky) Zapor.

Al was a graduate of Weir High School in Weirton, WV, and attended West Virginia University and Marietta College. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and prior to his retirement worked for 37 years as a central office technician for Steubenville Ohio Bell Telephone Company.

He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, Steubenville, OH, Immaculate Conception Parish, New Cumberland, WV and St. Andrew Catholic Church, Myrtle Beach, SC. He also belonged to the Telephone Pioneers Organization.

Al never met a person who did not like him. He was a good storyteller, had a very dry and funny sense of humor, generous heart and above all loved his family, friends and our Lord.

He is survived by two daughters: Amanda Beatty and husband, Steve of Myrtle Beach, SC and Carrie Ann Krupovich and husband, Joseph of Clarks Summit, PA; two sisters: Cecelia Watkins of Weirton, WV and Martina Bowley of Boynton Beach, FL and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by four brothers: Leonard, Stanley, Marion “Mutt” and Frank Zapor, and son-in-law, Timothy M. Ryan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, May 24, 2018, at 11:30 a.m. in St. Peter Catholic Church, 425 North Fourth Street, Steubenville, OH, celebrated by Rev. Timothy J. Huffman, pastor.

Interment with military honors will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Steubenville, OH.

Family and friends may call Thursday morning at the church from 9:30- 11:30 a.m.
