Mark Michael Helba passed away from pancreatic cancer on December 29, 2017, in Loudon County, Virginia.
He was was born in Weirton, West Virginia, in 1958 to John and Julia Helba.
He leaves behind his wife, Cynthia; two daughters, Kinsey and Madeleine; mother, Julia Helba; son-in-law, Joshua; brother, Richard and his wife, Mary Jo; nephew, Lucas; niece, Sara; and great-nieces, Jessica and Rylee.
Mark was a graduate of Weir High School and West Virginia University. He spent his career defending our country, working for the Central Intelligence Agency for 30 years. Mark also served in the Army Reserve. He was a member of St. Mark’s Orthodox Church in Bethesda, Maryland; an avid fisherman; a member of the Izaak Walton League; a longtime French and Indian War re-enactor; and a former Girl Scout troop leader. He enjoyed nothing more than sitting on the beach and watching the waves with his family and his dogs.
Donations can be made in his name to the St. Mark’s Outreach Committee and the Loudon County Izaak Walton League.
The family will receive friends at St. Mark Orthodox Church, 7124 River Road, Bethesda, MD, 20817 on Tuesday, January 2, 2018, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Interment will take place on Thursday, January 4, 2018, at 10 a.m, St. Nicholas Cemetery, Weirton, WV.
