Vera Martin

Vera Martin of Steubenville, Ohio, died December 11, 2017 in Steubenville.

She was born Nov. 14, 1940, in Cleveland, the daughter of the late Uler Stubbs Sr., and Cora Weems Stubbs.

She was a graduate of Kenston High School in Cleveland, and attended Drexel College. She worked as chef at Kaufman’s Restaurant.

She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where until her illness she was faithful and dedicated. She served as the pastor’s aide, on the dietary committee and was a member of the choir.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer L. Martin Sr.; five brothers; two sisters; and a grandson, Lee Alexander West.

She is survived by one son, Elmer Jr. (fiancee Erica Love) Martin of Martins Ferry; two daughters, Gloria Martin, and Eliza (Todd) Kelley of Steubenville; six grandchildren; two brothers, Gary (Louise) Stubbs of Steubenville, and Lawrence (Trudy) Stubbs of Columbus; a sister, Evalene (Connie) Croser of Chagrin Falls, Ohio; a special daughter-in-law, Alexandra (Cookie) West of Steubenville; a special son-in-law, Kevin Terry of Steubenville; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Calling hours Friday 10 a.m. until service at noon at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. The eulogist will be Bishop Jermaine Moore, with Rev. Benjamin Calvert III presiding.
