Floyda Hawkins

Floyda Louise McVicker Hawkins, 90, previously of New Cumberland, West Virginia, passed peacefully from this life into her heavenly home on Tuesday, November 7, 2017. Prior to her passing, she resided for 13 years in Anderson, South Carolina, where she was deeply cared for by loving family and friends.

Floyda was born May 30, 1927, in Metz, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Earlie Ellis McVicker and the late Nettie Horner McVicker. On June 10, 1945, she was united in marriage to Harold N. Hawkins. At the time of his passing in 2003, they had been married for 57 years of beautiful wedded bliss. Together, they dedicated their lives to spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ by planting churches throughout neighboring communities and faithfully serving in various capacities in local congregations.

Floyda is survived by three children, Robert (Sharon) Hawkins of New Cumberland, West Virginia, Barbara (Gary) Shaal of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Dinah (Gene) Segars of Anderson, South Carolina; nine grandchildren Lauria (Michael) Shroades of Enterprise, Alabama, Tammy (Jeffrey) Hubbard of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Gregory (Melissa) Hawkins of Weirton, West Virginia, Shawn (Kathleen) Segars of Anderson, South Carolina, Benjamin Hawkins of Memphis, Tennessee, Sherri Hawkins of Steubenville, Ohio, David Shaal of Evergreen, Colorado, Kimberly (Anthony) Sharp of Belton, South Carolina, Jennifer (Kevin) Wiles of Townville, South Carolina; eighteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters Hilda (Ralph) Pulver and Rosalie (Charles) Romine.

Floyda was preceded in death by her husband, Harold N. Hawkins, her son, Ronald M. Hawkins, and a sister, Nelta Ilene McVicker Thompson.

A celebration of Floyda’s life will be held Thursday, November 9 at 4 p.m. in the chapel of McDougald Funeral Home with Reverend J. Mark Daniel officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at McDougald Funeral Home. After the service, the family will be at the McDougald Family Center. Mrs. Hawkins’ will be transported to her home state for internment at Union Cemetery in New Manchester, West Virginia. Just prior to committal, a memorial service will be offered at Victory Life Church, 590 Steubenville Pike, Paris, Pennsylvania, Saturday, November 11, 2017, at 11 a.m. for those who are able to attend.
