James Jenkins

James C. “Ike” Jenkins Jr., 85, of Mingo Junction, OH, passed away Monday, September 18, 2017, at the Valley Hospice Care Center North in Steubenville, OH.

He was born April 23, 1931, in Weirton, WV, a son of the late James C. and Lucy (Six) Jenkins Sr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Ann Orth, Betty Roberts and Nellie Taylor.

Ike was a truck driver for the former Nicholson Fine Foods, then he retired from Steubenville Fruit. He served his country in the U.S. Army and received a Purple Heart for being wounded during the Korean War. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandkids.

Surviving are his wife, Helen (Spencer) Jenkins, whom he married on October 11, 1954; a son, Jimmy (Tammie) Jenkins of San Angelo, TX; two daughters, Pamela (Clyde) Parks and Deborah Wheatley, both of Mingo Junction, Ohio; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Friends will be received at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 101 Longview Ave., Mingo Junction, on Thursday from 11 a.m. until the time of his funeral services at 1:30 p.m. Minister Michael Gromczewski will officiate.

Interment will follow at Highland Hills Memorial Gardens in Follansbee, WV, with Military Honors by the Ohio Valley Veterans Squad.
