Leo Wesley Martin, 79 of Eldersville, died unexpectedly on Thursday, December 1, 2016.

He was born June 13, 1937, in Jefferson Twp., a son of the late Gaylord and Helen Wiegmann Martin.

Prior to retirement, Mr. Martin was employed by Standard Slag for 31 years and International Mill Service both in Weirton, WV.

He was a member of the Eldersville United Methodist Church, a founding member of the Jefferson Twp. Volunteer Fire Department, the Richard Vaux Masonic Lodge 454 in Burgettstown, the Scottish Rite Valley of Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh Syria Shriners.

Mr. Martin enjoyed family vacations to the beach, golfing and bowling with good friends and family and participated in all of his granchildrens’ events. He liked to catch a matinee and early dinner with his wife, Ilene, or they would light up the dance floor no matter the occasion. He enjoyed spending time with the guys at the fire hall, Saturday afternoon rodeos and golf on Sundays. He was a kind and loving man, always putting others before himself. Every day, he lived his life with a smile on his face, a laugh in his heart and a tease to lovingly torment. He always said, “I enjoyed life” and “It’s 5 o’clock somewhere.”

On June 14, 1958, he married Ilene Rossi, who survives.

Also surviving are his daughter, Tracy (John) Bongiorni of Burgettstown; his son Mark (Jodi) Martin of Imperial; his grandchildren, Brenden (Rachel) Bongiorni, Dylan Bongiorni, Nicholas Martin and Alyson Martin; and a brother, Gaylord Eugene Martin of Reidsville, NC.

Friends will be received from 6-9 p.m. Sunday, December 4, and 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Monday, December 5 in the Taucher Funeral Home, 23 Erie Mine Road, Burgettstown, where a blessing service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 6, with the Rev. Bob Staszewski officiating. Interment will follow in Bethel Cemetery, Eldersville. The Jefferson Twp. Fire Dept will conduct services at 8 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home and the Richard Vaux Masonic Lodge will conduct services at 7 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Jefferson Twp. Fire Dept. 12 Fire Rd., Burgettstown, PA 15021 or to the Washington-Greene County Caravan 2 (benefits the Transportation Fund of Shriners Children’s Hospital) c/o Alan Zimmerman, 71 Main St. Hickory, PA 15340.
