IGHNAT, Joseph G. “Santa Claus,” 71, of Wintersville died Monday, Oct. 24, 2016, at Mercy Hospital surrounded by his loved ones.

Joseph was born Dec. 20, 1944, in Steubenville. He is the son of the late Joseph A. and Helen Yarosz Ighnat.

Surviving are his sons, Joseph (Michelle) of Wintersville and Paul of Steubenville; daughter, Shawnda (Jay) Mitchell of Follansbee; Ex-wife Paula Sicurella-Ighnat of Steubenville; sisters, Barbara (John) Guglielmo of Weirton, Susan Porter of Wintersville, Becky (David) Sweda of Virginia. Nancy Ighnat Nicosia of California, Pamela (David) LaRue of Steubenville and brother David (Thelma) Ighnat of Hopedale; grandchildren, Jaycee and Tyler Mitchell; Erica, Kristalyn Emily, and Karlie Ighnat; Nicolette and Sonia Constable and Joseph “Lino” Ighnat; great-grandchildren, Lucas Vein, Vinchenza Martin and Layne Conyers; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Joe was a graduate of Catholic Central High School class of 1963. He was a service manager at the former Reilly Chevrolet. He was also Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus No.. 4361, Mingo Junction. and a current member of K of C No. 472, Steubenville.

Joe was best known for his portrayal of Santa Claus to many area families during Christmas for more than 40 years. He was loved by all and will be missed.

Calling hours will be held Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville. A Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church, Fr. Ryan Grey will celebrate.

Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A vigil service will be held Monday at 7:45 p.m.
