Belvadell Sindlinger

SINDLINGER, Belvadell Liggett, 105, of Delaware, formerly of Brilliant, OH passed away Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2016, at Willow Brook Christian Village where she had resided for the past six years.

She was born Aug. 3, 1911, in Ostrander to the late Odell and Belva Long Liggett.

Belvadell attended elementary and high school in Ostrander graduating in 1929. She received a degree in elementary education in 1933 from Ohio University. She taught elementary school for three years in the Delaware City Schools, and following her marriage moved to Brilliant, OH where she taught in a two room country school in Georges Run for 13 years.

Later she taught fourth grade in the Brilliant School District for 11 years. She had been a member of the Brilliant Presbyterian Church since 1937, serving as a Sunday school teacher and deacon.

Following her return to Delaware in 2009 she had attended the First Presbyterian Church in Delaware.

In 2001 she was honored by the Steubenville Herald Star for her knitting projects benefiting needy children of Appalachia.

In 2013 she was awarded the National Retired Teachers Assoc. “With our Youth” award for her volunteer work at the Robert F. Schultz Elementary School in Delaware. She was a member of the Brilliant Women’s Club, the LaBelle chapter of the Eastern Star, and life member of Ohio Retired Teachers Assoc.

She is survived by a niece, Martha Smith (Tom) of Marysville; nephews, Thomas Howison (Jeanne) of Galion, John Howison (Charlene) of Ostrander, and Verne Sindlinger (Phyllis) of Nashville; and numerous great and great great nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Charles Sindlinger (1989); and one sister, Helen Howison (2000).

Robinson Funeral Home is in care of arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to First  Presbyterian Church, Willow Brook Christian Village, and/or Heartland Hospice.

A memorial service was Monday at 3 p.m. at Willow Brook at Delaware Run, Pastor Deborah Patterson officiated. Burial for the family will be in Oakdale Cemetery in Marysville.
