Charles Frankenfield

Charles (Dutch) H. Frankenfield, Jr., 97, of Weirton, W.Va., passed away Monday, September 26, 2016, in the comfort of his home.

He was born on April 7, 1919, in Northampton, Pa., the son of the late Charles H. and Miriam Trankley Frankenfield. He also was preceded in death by his oldest son, Charles (Charlie) H. Frankenfield III in 1994; sister, Dorothy (William) Rohrbach; and daughter-in-law, Michelle Frankenfield.

Charles was a Lutheran by faith and belonged to the American Legion Post No. 10 in Weirton. He was a World War II veteran who served in the United States Marine Corps for six years and received an honorable discharge with two Purple Hearts earned during the Battle of Okinawa.

Dutch loved doing home improvements, lawn work, and enjoyed sitting on his front porch with family, friends, and wonderful neighbors. He retired from National Steel Corp. in 1980 with 32 years of service.

Surviving are his loving wife of 73 years, Simone Hale Frankenfield; sons, Terry (Cheryl) Frankenfield of Follansbee, W.Va., and Tim Frankenfield of Weirton, W.Va.; grandchildren Reuben (Brittany) Frankenfield of Mooresville, Ind., Ashley (Jeremy) Jenkins of Hedgesville, W.Va., and Jenna (David) Wilson of Weirton, W.Va.; great-grandchildren, Mia and Reese Frankenfield.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 29, 2016, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Steel and Wolfe Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 380 Penco Road, Weirton, WV 26062.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 30, at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Holley Faulkner Jr. presiding.

Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens where military funeral honors will be provided by the American Legion Post No. 10 and the West Virginia Honor Guard.
