Howard James

JAMES, Howard E., 88, of Homeworth, OH, passed away at 11:18 a.m., Sunday, Aug. 21, 2016, at Aultman Hospital.

He was born March 14, 1928, in Steubenville, OH, to Henry and Martha (Harris) James and came to the Alliance area in 1959.

Howard had been employed for 30 years at Kuntzman Trucking in Alliance.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Homeworth.

Howard’s family always came first and he loved his family reunion, collected Corvairs, loved horses and enjoyed chaperoning the Marlington Band. He could always be found tinkering with cars and other machinery.

Howard was a veteran of the United States Army and served in Germany during World War II. Howard was on the last honor flight out of Canton to Washington DC.

Survivors include his wife, Verona (McLaren) James, whom he had married May 27, 1951 and had  recently celebrated their 65th year of marriage; daughters, Verona (Jim) George of West Farmington, OH and Loretta (Lewis French) Pirolozzi of Canton; sister, Eleanor (Jim) Gribbon of Florida,: grandchildren, Heather (Matthew) Hammel, Kelly (Doug) Odegard and Haley Pirolozzi; four great-grandchildren, James and Michael Hammel and Leah and Lane Odegard; several loving nieces and nephews; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters; five brothers; two sons-in-law; one granddaughter; and a great-grandson.

Services will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, Aug. 26, 2016, at Cassaday-Turkle- Christian Funeral Home with Pastor Jim George officiating.

Friends may call from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 25th and one hour prior to the service Friday. Interment will be held at Fort Steuben Burial Estates in Wintersville on Saturday, August 27th.
