Edward Bedner

BEDNER, Edward John, Sr., 89, of Richmond, OH, passed away Aug. 17, 2016, at Trinity Medical Center West, Steubenville.

He was born July 6, 1927, in Republic, PA, a son of the late John George and Anna (Lucas) Bedner.

He served his country in Korea during the Korean Conflict with the 1092nd Engineering Corps as a Cpl in the United States Army.  He was a member of the American Legion and the National Education Association.

Ed graduated from Perry High School in Perryopalis, PA and earned his Master Degree from California University of PA.

He taught at Springfield High School for 34 years as the industrial arts and drafting teacher, driver education, and coaching track, football, baseball and basketball retiring in 1989.  Ed enjoyed leather crafting, gardening and woodworking.

Ed is survived by his wife of 54 years, Helen (Gratzinger) Bedner whom he married on July 13, 1962; sons, Edward (Laura) Bedner, Jr. of Brighton, Michigan and Jim Bedner of Houston, Texas; and grandchildren, Matthew and Hannah Bedner of Brighton, Michigan and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Jennifer Bedner; an infant son, Robert Bedner; one brother, John Edward Bedner and two sisters, Mary Vrabel and Elizabeth Sedlock.

Friends will be received on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Everhart-Bove Funeral Home, 110 W. Main St., Richmond where funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m..

Burial will follow at Ft. Steuben Burial Estates, Wintersville with full Military Honors.
