Lawrence Henry

HENRY, Lawrence Joseph, 75, of Bluffton, Indiana, passed away Monday, Aug. 4, 2014, at his residence in Bluffton, Indiana.

Larry was born July 10, 1939, in Steubenville, Ohio to Louis and Margaret Henry.

He attended Steubenville Catholic Central High School and was a proud graduate of the University of Dayton where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and Associate Degree in Engineering.

Larry began his career in the credit department at Westinghouse in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He continued working in that industry throughout his career with tenures at Hillenbrand Industries (Batesville, Indiana), Franklin Electric (Bluffton, Indiana) and Slater Steels (Ft. Wayne, Indiana). In his retirement years, Larry enjoyed driving cars for the Indiana Auto Auction (Ft. Wayne, Indiana).

Larry was very dedicated to his community, where he was a member of the Weirton Moose Lodge #688 (where he served as Governor), Bluffton Elks Lodge and American Legion Post 111 as well as the Knights of Columbus. Larry was an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Bluffton, Indiana where he served as an usher.

Larry had a passion for sports only shared by a few. He could often be found on the Parlor City Country Club golf course competing for quarters with his good friends, battling all comers in card games and walking the sidelines of the Norwell Knights football and basketball games; years after his children had graduated to the possible dismay of many of the referees. His sports loyalties extended beyond his beloved Flyers, Buckeyes and Steelers to the alma maters of his children and in-laws – as evidenced by his large collection of university embossed hooded sweatshirts.

On Nov.14, 1964, Larry and Anna Mae (Klepack) Henry were married, in Weirton, West Virginia; she survives in Bluffton, Indiana. Additional survivors include children, Bridget (Louis) Ray of Chicago, Illinois; Lori Henry (Mike Driscoll) of San Jose, California and Patrick (Caroline) Henry of Atlanta, Georgia; along with two grandchildren, Norah Margaret and Katherine Eva Henry of Atlanta, Georgia; one brother, John (Kathy) Henry of Memphis, Tennessee; and one sister, Marjorie (Harald) Oen of New Albany, Ohio.

A mass to celebrate Larry’s life (aka “The Great One” as he liked to call himself) will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 7th at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Bluffton, Indiana.

Viewing hours are 2 hours prior to the start of the celebration mass (9-11 a.m.) at the church.

Burial will follow on Friday, August 8th at the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Steubenville, Ohio.

Viewing will be at the Mount Calvary Chapel at 9 a.m. with the service to follow at 10 a.m.

The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that memorial gifts be made to the Father Francis Chukwuma Education Fund, 1300 North Main Street, Bluffton, Indiana, 46714.
