Albert Stasko

Albert J. Stasko, 91, of Weirton, passed away on Wednesday, August 27, 2014, at the Weirton Medical Center.

Born on February 9, 1923, in Toronto, OH, Albert was a son of the late Michael and Mary Chuhran Stasko.

He was also preceded in death by his brother, Michael Stasko; and his sisters, Anna Puhala, Mary Witkowski, Rose Harasick and Agnes Nevlis.

Albert served in the Pacific, with the U.S. Army, during World War II.

He retired from Signode after 31 years of service, where he worked as a weigh master.

A former basketball standout at Toronto High School, Albert enjoyed listening to polka music, playing cards, and gardening. But most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.

He was a member of Saint Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus 3734, American Legion Post 10, and the Four Seasons.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Czernek Stasko, whom he married on February 27, 1954; his son, Albert L. Stasko (Linda) of Lockport, IL; his daughter, Nancy A. Pugh (Ken) of Weirton, WV; his four grandchildren, Rick and Jessica Pugh of Weirton, Melissa Smith of Buford, GA, and Jennifer Ashley (Brad) of San Antonio, TX; and his four great grandchildren, Victoria and Alexander Wyant, and Cole and Luke Ashley.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday and 9-9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street Weirton.

The Knights of Columbus Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. on Friday.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday, at Sacred Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church, Weirton, Rev. Fr. Tony Thurston will preside.

Interment will follow at Saint Paul’s Cemetery, Weirton, with military services conducted by the American Legion Honor Guard.
