William W. “Bill” Bennett, 89, of Weirton, WV, passed away Monday, July 7, 2014, at Life Line Hospital, Wintersville, OH.
He was born July 28, 1924, in Lippencott, PA, the son of the late William C. and Carra Hill Bennett.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, John Robert Bennett.
Bill was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, American Legion Post No. 10, VFW Post No. 2716 and Elks Lodge No. 1801 BPOE.
He was a graduate of PENN Commercial Business School, Washington, PA. Bill served in the U.S. Army with the 34th Division, Fifth Army Infantry, WWII.
He was wounded at Cassino, Italy, and again at Anzio, Italy. He was a Purple Heart recipient. Bill had a great sense of humor and enjoyed boating, bowling and golfing with his family and friends. Bill retired from Starvaggi Industries Inc. as a dispatcher. His career of more than 40 years with Starvaggi’s also included employment in accounting and bookkeeping.
Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Eleanor Storey Bennett; daughter Cheryl Frankenfield (Terry) of Follansbee, WV; son John Bennett (Leticia) of Chapmanville, WV; sister Wilma Patterson of Versailles, IN; brother Ewing Bennett of Tucson, AZ; grandchildren Jared Bennett of Chapmanville, WV, Marisa Freeman (Jason) of Huntington, WV, Alison Likens of Hurricane, WV, Devon Posey (Trent) of Arvada, CO, and Jenna Frankenfield Wilson (Dave) of Morgantown, WV; and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Wednesday July 9, 2014, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Steel & Wolfe Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 380 Penco Road, Weirton, WV, where the funeral will be Thursday July 10, 2014, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Tim Conrad presiding. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Military funeral honors will be provided by American Legion Post No. 10 and the WV Honor Guard.
