Ernest Bartels

Ernest P. Bartels, 89, of Toronto, OH, passed away Friday, July 4, 2014, in the Laurels of Steubenville, OH.

Ernie was born October 16, 1924, in Knoxville, OH, son of the late Fredrick William and mama Alice McDonald Bartels and mother Eunice Hudson Bartels.

Ernie was retired from Titanium Metals Corp., in Toronto, where he worked in the Tube Mill. He also served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army.

In addition to his parents, Ernie was preceded in death by three brothers, George, Paul and Harry Bartels; and his sister, Marjorie Stoneking.

Surviving is his wife, Carol M. (Lowe) Bartels, whom he married on February 3, 1953; two daughters, Bridgett (Kevin) Norris of Akron, OH and Alice (Bob) Simpson of Indianapolis, IN; his son, Timothy (Diane) Bartels of Greensburg, PA; two brothers, John Bartels of Sebring, OH, and Fred (Carol) Bartels of Toronto; seven grandchildren, Jennifer (Jason) McCormick, Eric (Beth) Norris, Brenda (Russ) Johnston, Elizabeth (David) Deker, Mark Bartels, Adam Workman and Aaron (Kristy) Workman; seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Monday July 7, 2014, from 3-7 p.m. at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home, Inc., 701 Findley St. in Toronto.

Additional visitation will be held on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time of Ernie’s Funeral Service at 11 a.m. Son-in-law Bob Simpson will provide his service. Entombment will follow in Fort Steuben Burial Estates in Wintersville, OH.

Full military honors will be provided by the Toronto American Legion Post 86.
