Carol Smith

SMITH, Carol Crewson Smith, 89, went to be with The Lord on July 23, 2014.

She was born on March 14, 1925, in Steubenville, OH, the daughter of William B. Crewson, longtime operator of the Capital Theatre in Steubenville.

She graduated from Steubenville (Big Red) High School in 1943. She graduated from Kilgore College in Tyler, Texas, in 1945, and was a member of the Kilgore Rangerettes precision dance team under its founder, Gussie Nell Davis. She graduated with her B.A. in education from West Liberty College in Wheeling. She taught first grade in Smithfield, Piney Fork, and Wintersville (Bantam Ridge Elementary) for 31 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Adam Smith, who had worked for Hanna Coal Company (Piney Fork) and Wheeling Steel Corporation (Steubenville plant).

After retiring they lived in the Orlando, FL area near their son, John W. Smith (Nancy), and grandchildren, Bradford J. Smith (Meredith) and Julie Smith Wood (Stephen).

She is survived as well by six great-grand children, and Elizabeth (Betty) Howcroft her sister-in-law and lifelong friend. She is also survived by numerous nephews/nieces including: Alex Smith of Hopedale; Daniel Veronica of Rockville, Maryland; Howard Smith of Piney Fork; Ralph Scharfenberg and Sharon Thorne of Steubenville.

Local arrangements by Borkoski Funeral Home, 555 East Market Street, Cadiz, OH. There will be a graveside service at Holly Memorial Gardens (Colerain) on Sunday, July 27, at 10 a.m.
