Jerry “Pappy” Cross, 67, of Weirton passed away peacefully at his home, after a fierce battle with cancer, on Saturday May 31, 2014. He is now in the arms of his Lord and Savior.
Born on October 10, 1946, in Wheeling, WV, Jerry was a son of the late Harold and Mildred (Moren) Cross, Jr.
He was also preceded in death by his first wife of 30 years, Jean Cross; and an infant sister.
Jerry graduated Wellsburg High School in 1966. A Bronze Star recipient of the Vietnam War, Jerry served in the United States Army for 21 years with the 82nd Airborne Division and Military Police. After his service to his country, Jerry served as a guard for the North Carolina Division of Corrections for 11 years.
Jerry was a member of the Weirton Heights Memorial Baptist Church
He is survived by his loving wife, Carol S. (Adams) Cross, whom he cherished; a brother, William (Shirley) Cross; two stepdaughters, two stepsons, eight grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews.
Jerry’s wishes were to donate his body to the West Virginia Gift Registry.
Friends and relatives will gather to celebrate his life, at Weirton Heights Memorial Baptist Church, on Sunday June 22, 2014, from 2:30 p.m. until the time of memorial services at 3 p.m.
Pastor William C. Stout will preside.
Immediately following the service the American Legion Honor Guard will perform military honors with a gun salute and the playing of taps.
