Hattie ‘Ida’ Bonnizzio

Hattie J. “Ida” (Grygo) Bonnizzio, 92 of Toronto, OH, passed away Monday, May 5, 2014, at the Trinity Medical Center, West, Steubenville, OH.

She was born August 15, 1921, in Steubenville, OH, the daughter of the late Frank and Julia (Kosmowska) Grygo.

Hattie was a member of the St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church of Toronto; Catholic Women’s Club of the church; Piecemakers Quilting Club and was a 1939 graduate of Toronto High School.

Sundays were a special day in Hattie’s kitchen. She was known for her wonderful spaghetti and meatballs. Many friends and family stopped by to enjoy her cooking and baking.

Hattie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Nick C. Bonnizzio in 1985, whom she married May 15, 1943; sister, Eleanor Hickey; brothers, Stanley, John and Charles Greggo and Edmund Grygo son-in-law, James G. Cable II.

She is survived by her daughter, Nikki Ann Cable of Toronto, OH; son, Gary Lee (Christy) Bonnizzio of Toronto, OH; grandchildren Julie (Robert) Robinson of Toronto, OH, Jana L. Witt and companion, Wylie Womack of Lebanon, IN, Ryan L. (Stephanie) Bonnizzio of Twinsburg, OH, and Darcy L. (Rod) Henry of Toronto, OH; great-grandchildren Jayce Robinson, Emma and Michael Henry of Toronto, Haley and Alyssa Witt of Lebanon, IN, and Nicholas and Gabriella Bonnizzio of Twinsburg, OH.

Visitation hours for Hattie will be 1-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, May 8, at the Clarke Funeral Home, 302 Main St., Toronto, OH.

A vigil service will be held at 3:45 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

A Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday, May 9, at the St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, corner of Findley St. and Euclid Ave., Toronto with concelebrants the Reverend Father Thomas Vennitti and Monsignor Gerald Calovini officiating.

Burial will follow at the Toronto Union Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in memory of Hattie may be made to the St. Francis Catholic Church, Toronto High School Alumni Association or the Shepherd’s Closet.
