Michael Carapellotti

CARAPELLOTTI, Michael Benedict, 59, of Steubenville died Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at the Cleveland Clinic.

Mike fought a courageous battle against his illness for over a 13-year period of time throughout which he and his family demonstrated incredible strength and perseverance.

He was born February 21, 1955, in Steubenville. He is the son of the late Paul and Dahlia Santarelli Carapellotti.

Surviving are his loving wife, Rita Accordino Carapellotti, whom he married August 23, 1986; and his three children, Franco, Nicolette and Michael. He is also survived by his two brothers, Paul (Sanna) and Albert (Melissa); his sister, Mary Anne (Ed) Dimitry; along with his nephews, Tony Dimitry, Julian, Paul and Vince Carapellotti and his niece Anna Carapellotti. He also leaves numerous cousins and his one aunt, Christine (Carapellotti) Shultz of Steubenville. He will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.

Mike was a 1973 graduate of Steubenville Catholic Central High School and was a proud member of the 1971 Ohio AA State Championship Crusader football team. He always remained loyal to his alma mater and spent many years coaching at the high school. Additionally he coached various youth league sports, spending countless hours helping with both baseball and basketball.

Mike began a career in business and eventually went on to run an over 60-year-old family of enterprises started by his father Paul and others. The businesses are focused in the energy and real estate industries and include Anthony Mining Company, Jeffco Resources, Richmond Mill, and Steuben Coal Anthony Mining among others. He was greatly admired by his colleagues for his entrepreneurial spirit and his devotion to his hometown.

Mike served on various boards over his business career including the Finance Committee of the Steubenville Catholic Central School Board, Campaign Board of the Ohio Cancer Research Association, Franciscan University of Steubenville Advisory Board, former St. John Arena Board, and Trinity Foundation, to name a few.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Italian Sons and Daughters of America, the Serra Club, and the Italian American Cultural Club.

Calling hours are Saturday 3-7 p.m. and Sunday 3-7 p.m. at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville.

A Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Name Cathedral, Bishop Jeffrey Monforton, celebrant. Burial at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. There will be a vigil service 7 p.m. Sunday.
