Mary Margaret ‘Peggy’ Sanders Carr

CARR, Mary Margaret “Peggy” Sanders, 80, died peacefully at home Tuesday, March 25.

Born June 27, 1933, in Wintersville, OH, daughter of Austin R. and Mary E. (George) Sanders.

Known for her welcoming spirit, open mind, attention to good grammar and diction, and rich alto voice. Valedictorian Wintersville HS class of 1950. Bachelor of education from Ohio State University, 1954. Worked as high school English/ drama teacher, proofreader, and retired as technical editor at The OSU Press. Member First Unitarian- Universalist Church of Columbus, where she was early School for Young Children secretary and spent decades in the choir. Also sang with Merry Maids, Nostalgics and, for past 20 years, the Friday Singing Ladies.

Enjoyed traveling with family to Greece and throughout Europe and completing such genealogical projects as Ohioana- recognized “1860: A Year in the Life of Rev. Joseph Shane.”

Preceded in death by husband of 37 years, Hudson N. Carr (married 1954); siblings Geraldine, Emerson and George Sanders and Janet Reynolds. Survived by five children: Amelia (Pete LeBar) Carr of Meadville, PA; Glynis (Juli Corrigan) Carr of Lewisberg, PA; Lydia Janning (fiance Ken Radabaugh) of Wilmington, NC; Julia Carr (Allen) Smyth of Columbus; and George (Lidia) Carr of Beachwood; seven grandchildren, Jesse Carr of Ann Arbor, MI; Joan and Samantha Janning, and Caroline Smyth of Columbus; 2nd Lt. John B. Janning of Fort Bliss, TX; Alexandra and Catherine Carr of Beachwood; and six cherished nieces. Memorial service noon Monday at 1st UU Church, 91 W. Weisheimer Rd.
