Victor Carlo Ciancetta

CIANCETTA, Victor Carlo, 88, of Steubenville, passed away Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014 at Trinity West.

He was born on May 6, 1925 in Steubenville, the son of the late Carlo and Frances DeLeonardis Ciancetta.

He was married to the late Dorothy Alexander Ciancetta on Nov. 15, 1952.

Victor is also preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph ( Elizabeth) Ciancetta, August (Mary) Ciancetta, Valerio (Pauline) Ciancetta, sister, Irene LeClear, and an infant, Carlo II.

Surviving is his sister, Gloria (Frank) Tluchowski of Steubenville and sister-in-law, June Davis of Upper Arlington; son, Dr. Victor B. (Rita Anne) Ciancetta of Hilliard, and daughter, Cindy (David) Szydlowski of Steubenville; four grandsons, David A.Szydlowski, Victor A. (Natalie) Ciancetta, Michael A. (Lauren) Szydlowski and Jonathon A. Ciancetta; two great-grandsons, Cole A Ciancetta and William M. Szydlowski and many nieces and nephews.

Victor was a member of St. Anthony Church and present a parishioner of Triumph of the Cross Catholic Church. Victor was in the U.S. Army and served in the Pacific Theater from 1943-1946. Went to Catholic Central high school 1939-1943, The Ohio State University 1946-1950 in Architectural Design and Business Administration. College of Steubenville 1952 (Arts and History).

His work experience was the construction industry both residential and commercial with Carlo Ciancetta and Sons Inc. founded by his father, Carlo Ciancetta, more than 75 years ago. He was also the Project Representative at St. John Medical Center / Trinity Health Systems 1968-2003.

Victor’s current membership and board activities include: Steubenville Lions Club (Life Member), University of Steubenville Century Club, Community Club, Catholic Community Center/ Executive Board 41 years, Catholic Conference of Ohio, Dept of Health Affairs, nine years, The Ohio State University Alumni Association, Life Member, the Ohio State University Alumni Club of Jefferson County, Board Member of the Jefferson County Mental Health and Retardation 648 Board, appointed four year term by Governor John Gilligan, reappointed for another four year term by Governor James Rhodes and Member for 13 years. Board member of the Steubenville Area Chamber of Commerce, Board Member of The City of Steubenville Board of Building Appeals, Board member of The Eastern Ohio Speech and Hearing. Also Alpha Phi Delta National Collegiate Fraternity, Alpha Phi Delta Steubenville Alumni Club, Alpha Phi Delta Columbus Alumni Club, Knights of Columbus, Fourth Degree (Life Member), Knights of Columbus: Third Degree (Life Member) council 472, Catholic Knights of St George, William Penn Association, Eastern Ohio Speech and Hearing Assocation, 12 years.

Victor’s awards include: Alpha Phi Delta National Outstanding Alumnus Award 1958, Alpha Phi Delta Alumni Appreciation Award, St John Medical Center Leadership Award 1970, The Ohio State University Distinguish Citizenship Award 1973, Alpha Phi Delta Beta Theta Chapter Award 1954, St Anthony Church Parrish council Outstanding Service Award, The Ohio State University Development Fund Award for five consecutive years, Catholic Knights of St George, Knight of the year Award, American Catholic Who’s Who, Franciscan University of Steubenville Founders Award 1992, Sisters of St Frances of Sylvania-St Francis of Assisi Award 2009.

Victor’s past organizational activities: Chairman of the University of Steubenville Board of Advisors, board member seven years, President of the Steubenville Area Chamber, board member four years, Chairman of St John Medical Center Board of Advisors, eight consecutive years, board member 15 years; President of the Steubenville Lions Club for two years Member 25 years; President of The Ohio State University Alumni Association of Jefferson County, board member six years and member 55 years; President of the Steubenville Community Chest, board member four years; Chairman of St Anthony’s Church Parish Council, two years council member four years, Governor of the Alpha Phi Delta National Fraternity, six years, member 64 years; Faithful Navigator of the Fourth Degree Father Bigelow Assembly, Knights of Columbus, Officer eight years, member 64 years; Board member of the State of Ohio Hospital Advisory Council, appointed by Governor John Gilligan; Board Member of Catholic Social Service, Diocese of Steubenville, appointed by Bishop John King Mussio, 15 years; Board member of the Eastern Ohio Regional Transit Authority and Steubenville Area Transit Board, 14 years, member 20 years.

Calling hours are Thursday 3-8 p.m. at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd, Steubenville, A Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church (built by Carlo Ciancetta and Son’s), Fr Thomas Nau, celebrant and Fr Thomas Marut con celebrant. Burial at Mt Calvary Cemetery. There will be a vigil service at 7:30 p.m.
