Cena J. DeShong

DeSHONG, Cena J., 82, of Mingo Junction, OH, passed away Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, at the Rosewood Manor Nursing Home in Yorkville, OH.

She was born Dec. 24, 1931, in Allegheny County, PA, a daughter of the late James and Dora (Schrader) Ankrom.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George O. DeShong; four brothers, James, Fred, Wilford and Russell Ankrom; and two sisters, Ruth Madrid and Lucille Townsend. Cena worked her way through school and graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a Bachelor’s degree in Surgical Nursing. She continued in the nursing profession as a registered nurse until her retirement.

Surviving are two daughters, Andrea Jane DeShong and her partner, Toni Billetter of Mingo Junction and Amanda DeShong and her partner, Joan Wallace of Hampton, New Hampshire; three brothers, Herbert Ankrom of California, Manuel (Darlene) Ankrom of New Port News, VA and Daniel (Shirley) Ankrom of Hagerstown, MD; three sisters, Elda Mae (Fred) Silvestri of Rayland, OH, Dora Lynch of McConnellsville, PA and Elaine Harr of Hagerstown, MD; and her adopted daughter, Michelle Stevens of Glen Dale, WV.

Friends will be received at Wheeler Funeral Home, 712 Third St., Brilliant, OH on Saturday from 11 a.m. until the time of her funeral services at 1 p.m. with Pastor Charles “Sonny” Shoe, officiating. Private burial will follow at New Alexandria Cemetery.
