Robert E. ‘Bob’ McCartney

McCARTNEY, Robert E. “Bob,” 88, of Bloomingdale, OH, died Sunday, November 3, 2013, at Trinity West.

He was born in Steubenville, OH, on July 16, 1925, the son of the late Thomas Edward and Irene Bumgard McCartney.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and Thomas McCartney.

Bob retired from Titanium Metals and served during World War II with the U.S. Navy as a submariner. He enjoyed traveling the country in his motorhome and vacationing in Yuma, Arizona during the winter months.

He is survived by his lifelong companion Elma G. Schoppe of Bloomingdale and her children, Fred W. (Susan) Schoppe of Mingo Junction, OH, and Carole Sue Jester of Wintersville, OH; a sister, Eleanor (Thomas) Boychan of Steubenville, OH.

Bob’s request was to have his body be donated to further medical research to the College of Osteopathic Medicine Ohio University.

A memorial service will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery to be announced at a later date.
