Rev. Dorothy Culp

CULP, Dorothy Nell Cobb, 87, of Campobello, passed away on November 23, 2013, at her home.

She was the daughter of the late Crayton C. and Carrie Farrow Cobb and wife of Wayne Alford Culp. She earned Masters degrees from Scarrett College, Converse and Erskine Seminary. She was a retired United Methodist minister. Rev. Culp had pastored Union Hill Congregational Methodist Church in Arab, AL; was a missionary to the Congo; pastored Golightly-Tabernacle United Methodist Charge, Bath-Clearwater and co- pastored with her husband at Aldersgate UMC Greenville, SC. She taught English at Thoreau Middle School in Vienna, VA, at Evans and McCracken in Spartanburg. She was a member of the SC United Methodist Conference.

She is survived by her husband, Rev. Dr. Wayne A. Culp; four children: Daniel of Vienna, VA; Rebecca of Campobello, SC; David of Aiken, SC and Samuel of Campobello, SC; 10 grandchildren: Lawrence, Christopher and Richard Culp Robinson, Evan and Cameron Culp, Adam, Ashley, Andrew, Liam, and Haley Culp; eight great-grandchildren; brothers, David, Billy and Ray Cobb of Arab, AL; a sister, Betty Gregg of Whitewright, TX; and many nieces and nephews.

Dorothy Nell was one of 11 children, six of whom have preceded her in death.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 26, 2013, at Gramling United Methodist Church from 1-2 pm. The funeral service will follow at 2:30 pm at the church conducted by Rev. Ben Herlong, Dr. Ted Walters and Rev. Molly Wilkes. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wayne A. & Dorothy N. Culp Student Scholarships at Spartanburg Methodist College, Spartanburg, SC; Asbury University or Asbury Theological Seminary, Wilmore, KY; Protestant University Congo (UPC), to Spartanburg Regional Hospice or to one’s favorite charity.
