Kenneth F. Walter

WALTER, Kenneth F., 81, of Steubenville, passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at Gable’s Care Center in Hopedale.

Born March 19, 1932 in Steubenville, he is a son of the late Charles E. and Bertha (Moore) Walter.

Ken is a member of the Christ United Methodist Church in East Springfield; and is retired from the Laborer’s Local 809 in Steubenville. He was a groundskeeper at the Blackmoor Golf Course in Wintersville, and is a highly decorated veteran of the Korean War, having served in the U.S. Army. Ken was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed raccoon hunting.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, John Walter; a sister, Wanda Bell; and three grandchildren, Jacob and Joshua Walter and Danielle Renee Vojvodich.

Ken’s survivors include his wife of 56 years, Mrs. Patricia F. (Bly) Walter of the family home in Steubenville whom he married June 29, 1957; two sons, Mike Walter and his wife Susan of Hammondsville, OH, Charles Walter and his wife Nicole of Toronto; a daughter, Mrs. Melissa Vojvodich and her husband Mark of Wellsburg, WV; a step-brother, Sam Merrill and his wife Barb of Steubenville; a sister, Mrs. Norma Merrill of New Philadelphia, OH; seven grand children, Michael Walter, Sara Walter, Adam Walter, Katie Walter, Mason Vojvodich, Makayla Walter, Kenzie Walter; and a great-granddaughter, Emma Dibenedetto.

Family and friends will gather for visitation on Friday, October 18, 2013 from 5 p.m. until the time of the celebration of Ken’s life service at 8 p.m. at the Clarke Funeral Home, 302 Main St., Toronto, OH 43964. 740-537-1234/ 855-847-1240

Pastor Dirk Hall will officiate the service, and the Toronto American Legion Post 86 will conduct full military honors at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions in Ken’s name be made to either Valley Hospice Inc. or to the Wounded Warrior Project.
