George F. Grantonic

GRANTONIC, George F., 90, of Richmond, died Monday, October 7, 2013, at Valley Hospice.

He is the son of the late John and Anna Jakub Grantonic, George is also preceded in death by his brother, Thomas and his sister, Mary Agnes Matthews.

George retired in 1985 from Weirton Steel with 28 years of service, was a part time employee at the Mosti Funeral Home for 47 years, and served his country in the US Army infantry during WWII.

George was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and its men’s club, Weirton steel 25-year club, AARP, Experimental Airplane Association, and the Mingo Jct. American Legion post 351.

Surviving are his wife: Josephine Carfagna Grantonic whom he married June 14, 1952, two brothers, Edward (Katie) Grantonic of Mingo Jct. and John (Barbara) Grantonic of Youngstown, one sister, Florence Hirkala of Weirton, and many nephews and nieces and great- nephews and nieces.

Calling hours are Thursday 3-8 p.m. at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd. Steubenville. A Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday at Blessed Sacrament, Msgr. Kurt Kemo, celebrant. Entombment at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. There will be a vigil service 5 p.m. Thursday.
