Silas Edgar Burris

BURRIS, Silas Edgar, 74, of Carrollton, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013, at his home.

He was born Nov. 17, 1938, in Crestline, Ohio to Guilford Lawson Burris and Urana Mildred (Watts) Burris.

Silas retired from the Navy after 20 years of service in the U.S. Navy as an Air Traffic Control Chief. He worked 15 years for the Department of Defense in the nuclear power program. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Minerva. Silas was a 50 year member of the Masons. He belonged to Lodge 124 in Carrollton. He also belonged to the American Legion in Malvern. Silas loved hunting, fishing, woodworking, camping and traveling.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Janet (Baker) whom he married Dec. 26, 1959; three sons, John Burris of Richmond, Ky., T. Scott (Carla) Burris of Greensboro, Pa., and Stephan ‘Eric’ (Regina) Burris of Berea, Ky.; a daughter, Debbie Wills Wheeler of Ridgecrest, Calif.; two sisters, Beatrice (Robert) Estes and Sally (Robert) Karam, both of Kentucky; five grandchildren, Scott Burris, Jr., Matthew Burris, Silas Burris, Elijah Burris, and Nicholas Burris.

Besides his parents, a brother, G.L. Burris Jr. and a sister, Bonnie Smith are deceased.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, at the Allmon Dugger Cotton Funeral Home with Charles Pearson officiating. Military services will be provided by the American Legion, DAV and the VFW and a Masonic service will be held at 10:30 a.m.
