Virginia Ward

WARD, Virginia Humes, a Follansbee native and Florida resident, died Sunday, June 23, at Venice Regional Medical Center, Fla.

Virginia was the daughter of the late Celia May James Humes and George Lee Humes of Follansbee, W.Va.

In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by Harvey B. Ward, her husband of 67 years, and sister Wilma A. Humes.

Virginia taught at Follansbee and Brooke High Schools for 33 years, was a director of Bank of Follansbee (founded by her grandfather), and a part-time employee of Follansbee Insurance Agency (founded by her father). She was a lifelong and active member of Follansbee United Presbyterian Church and an affiliate member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Venice, Fla., and a member of the Wellsburg Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, Myakka Chapter of NASDAR, Alpha Delta Pi Sorority, and Twentieth Century Club of Follansbee. For several years, Virginia was the Brooke County Chair of the American Heart Association.

Virginia is survived by her sister, Cecelia Humes Groff, three daughters M. Ellen (Louis) Fusco, Brenda E. Ward, and Marcia Ward (Kevin) Pufpaff, granddaughter Erin N. Fusco (husband Karl Seigfried), dear cousins, nieces, and nephews, and her beloved Havanese Cai.

Visitation will be on Friday, June 28, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and again on Saturday, June 29, 2013, from 11 a.m. until noon at the James Funeral Home, 1245 Main Street, Follansbee, WV, (304) 527-1717.

A food reception will be at noon on Saturday, June 29, 2013, followed by a funeral service will be held on at 1 p.m. at United Presbyterian Church of Follansbee, with the Rev. Dr. Ruth Bates, presiding.

Internment will follow next to her husband at Union Cemetery, Steubenville, OH.
