HUDEC, Rudolph “Rudy,” 92, of Wellsburg, WV, passed away on Monday, May 27 2013, at Hawthorne Woods Assisted Living in Washington, PA.
He was born on December 27, 1920, in Pittsburgh, PA, a son of the late John and Mary (Bartko) Hudec.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Virginia (Smith) Hudec on March 19, 2012, his first wife, Doris (King) Hudec on February 8, 1985, and three brothers, John, Michael, and Andrew Hudec.
Surviving are three nephews, Michael Hudec and wife, Donna, of Gibsonia, PA, John Hudec of Pittsburgh, PA, Stephen Hudec and wife, Sara, of Gibsonia, PA, niece by marriage, Eileen Hudec Siwicki of Wexford, PA, sister-in-law, Ruth Greentree of Baltimore, MD, two nieces, Lisa Woody and husband, Kevin of Hanover, PA, Diana Evans of Baltimore, MD, and several great nephews and nieces.
Also surviving are four stepchildren, Ruth Brown of Wellsburg, WV, Dean Smith and wife, Karen of Bethany, WV, Jean Crago and husband, Daniel, Neal Smith and wife, Joan all of Wellsburg, WV. He is also survived by seven step grandchildren and six step great-grandchildren.
Rudy was a member of Holy Emmanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Pittsburgh, PA. He attended First Baptist Church of Wellsburg, WV, where his wife was a member. Rudy was a veteran of World War II (1942-1946) serving in the Army’s 383rd Air Service Group. He was a graduate of Pittsburgh Business Academy and the University of Pittsburgh earning a Bachelor’s of Science and Masters of Art in Education. While at Pitt, Rudy lettered three years as a baseball pitcher.
In 1985, he retired after 32 years of teaching at Steubenville High School. Rudy taught Physical Education, Health, Driver’s Education and coached baseball and basketball. He was a lifetime member of the National Education Association.
Rudy was a loving, devoted husband and brought much happiness to all those who knew and loved him dearly.
There will be no visitation.
A private gathering of family and friends for a graveside service will be held in Allegheny Cemetery in Pittsburgh, PA with Rev. Art Wells officiating.
