Hazel Louise LaHood

LAHOOD, Hazel Louise, 95, of Wheeling, W.Va., died Tuesday, May 14, 2013, in Wheeling Hospital.

She was born Aug. 4, 1917, in Moundsville, W.Va., a daughter to the late Nassief and Amoon (Naufel) Lewis.

Hazel graduated from Moundsville High School in 1935 and was married a year later to her husband James E. LaHood who preceded her in death on New Years Eve 1993. They spent most of those years in Martins Ferry, Ohio and were long time members of St. Mary Catholic Church. Hazel moved to Wheeling in 2000 and was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and the Christian Mothers.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, and siblings, Louis, Sarah, Dorothy, Helen Joseph, Patty Gunn, and Mae Toth.

She is survived by her beloved children, James C. (Brenda) LaHood of Wheeling, Janice Jones of Wheeling, Michael LaHood of Wheeling, and Patty (Marty) Adams of Salineville, Ohio; one brother, George Lewis of Glen Dale, W.Va.; one sister-in-law, Jeanne LaHood of Birmingham, Mich.; the light of her life, her grandchildren, Jeffrey (Staci) Jones of Scott Depot, W.Va., Stephanie (John) Correia of Nantucket, Mass., Stacy (Jonathan) Greer of Wheeling, Branden (Amy) LaHood of Wheeling, Anne Jones Yourkavich of Wheeling, Josh (Dipali) Adams of Cincinnati, Ohio, Leigh Ann (Jamie) LaHood of Washington, D.C., Megan (Jared) Cass of Clarksville, Tenn., Matt (Trista) Adams of Sydney, Australia, and Taylor (Stephanie) Wilkinson of Las Vegas, Nev.; her great-grandchildren, Carly and Cole Greer, John and Caroline Correia, James David (J.D.) LaHood, Parker J. and Macey Adams, and Everleigh Cass; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received Thursday, May 16, 2013, from 3-8 p.m. at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, Elm Grove Chapel, 154 Kruger Street, Wheeling, where a vigil service will be held at 5:30 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, May 17, 2013, at 12:30 p.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wheeling, with Rev. Raju Antony as celebrant.

Entombment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling.
