Harold Kingston Barkley
BARKLEY, Harold Kingston, 83, of Colliers, WV, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Thursday, May 9, 2013, at Trinity Medical Center West, Steubenville, OH.
He was born Jan. 9, 1930, in Thomas, WV., the son of the late Clyde Barkley and Genevieve Davis Pienkosky.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Glenn Barkley.
Harold was an avid outdoorsman spending time hunting and fishing in Canaan Valley. He was a master gardener, excellent bowler who recorded a perfect 300 game, and a hole-in-one playing golf. Harold retired from Weirton Steel with 40 years of service as a hydraulics engineer in the engineering department.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, Korean War. He was a member of Weirton Lodge No.171 A.F. & A.M., Osiris Shriners, Open Door Baptist Church, Weirton Steel 25 year club, VFW Post No.2716, Sunday night mixed doubles bowling league, Wednesday night men’s bowling league, and he enjoyed playing cards with his friends at the Weirton Senior Center. Golfing with his retired buddies was also a favorite.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Clondell Ankrom Barkley; daughters, Cynde Vidas of Twinsburg, OH, Teri Barkley of Weirton, WV; grandchildren, Courtney Vidas of Knoxville, TN, J.T. Smarrella of Cary, NC; brother, Robert “Buddy” Barkley; sisters, Sharlet Wright(Fred), Rosie Mason(Keith), Ginny Willy; numerous nieces and nephews; and of course his canine walking friends, Raven and Ditzy.
Visitation will be at the Steel & Wolfe Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 380 Penco Road, Weirton, WV on Friday May 10, 2013, 4-7 p.m.
The funeral will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Larry Garrison presiding. Burial and Masonic service will follow at St. John Cemetery with Weirton Lodge No.171 A.F.&A.M. www.steelandwolfe.com
