Mary Porter-Keeder

PORTER-KEEDER, Mary V. “Ms. Mary,” age 96, of Hopedale, Ohio, died Thursday, April 25, 2013 at Trinity West in Steubenville, Ohio.

She was born February 24, 1917 in Weston, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Glenn Mayes and Nell Gay Faulkner Hickman.

She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Dr. Beecher J. Porter on July 5, 1995; a brother, James G. Hickman who lost his life during WWII; and a step-sister, Bodean Joyce Baker.

During her early years of employment, she worked as a Receptionist/Assistant with Dr. B. J. Porter in the Steubenville and Wintersville offices. Mary was a former member of Faith Evangelical Church, Richmond; Rebekah Lodge, #73 Star of the Valley, Weirton, WV; Christian Supper Club held at Alameda Inn, Hopedale and the Red Hat Club.

She is survived by her husband, Albert Keeder, Jr. of Weirton; sister-in-law, Shirley (Chuck) Bailey of Weirton; nieces, Kelley Jo Stogden, Heidi Palmer; and several other nieces and nephews; and caregiver and entrusted friend, Pam Cline, with whom she resided.

Friends may call at the Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville on Monday from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m., where funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m., with Rev. George Henry conducting services in the funeral home chapel. Entombment to follow in Fort Steuben.
