COOK, Joanne R., 80, of Colliers, WV, passed away Thursday, March 7, 2013, in the Acuity Hospital, Steubenville, OH.
Born on July 30, 1932, in Shinntown, PA. She was a daughter of the late Earl and Maggie Merideth Allen.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Cook in 1986, brothers, William and Jack Allen and sisters, Pearl Price, Mabel Baker, Barbara Wolfe, Esther Hurst, Dorothy Williams, Jeanne Socha and Mary Lou Tanis.
For 17 years, Mrs. Cook served as a social worker for the Salvation Army. She was a very active member of the Colliers United Methodist Church and the church choir. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society and enjoyed playing euchre, music and playing the piano.
Joanne is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth Cook of Colliers and April (Butch) Schill of Boyers, PA; step-daughter, Debbie Henry of Lisbon, OH; brothers, Don (Gerri) Allen of Miamisburg, OH, and Wesley (Bernice) Allen of Wellsburg, WV; sister, Marjorie Leppar of Weirton; grandchildren, Jeremy (Terri) Allen of Weirton, Michael (Angela) Allen of Steubenville and Sara (Joe) Nyman of Ogilvie, MN; five great-grandchildren, and very special friends, Gary and Norma Dulaney of Colliers.
A 4 p.m. memorial service will be held Sunday, March 10, 2013, at the Colliers United Methodist Church. The Reverend Don Stilgenbauer will officiate.
Private interment will be held at the convenience of Mrs. Cook’s family.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main St., Weirton, WV.
