Elizabeth ‘Libby’ Ann Lardie

LARDIE, Elizabeth “Libby” Ann, peacefully passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2013, at Masonicare in Newtown CT.

Libby Chaffee was born on April 10, 1930, in Toronto OH, the only daughter of V.R. and Sara Chaffee.

Libby graduated from Toronto High School in 1948, received a bachelor degree in sociology from Akron University in 1952 and a Masters of Science in Social Administration from the School of Applied Social Sciences at Western Reserve University, Cleveland in June 1955.

For 20 years Libby worked in various positions in northeastern Ohio with county welfare services and became the Director of the Ashtabula County Children’s Service.

In 1976 Libby married Leo Lardie and moved to Ridgefield CT where she was very happy taking care of children and serving in various community volunteer positions. She was also an avid bridge player and enjoyed golfing and traveling with Leo until his death in 2005.

Libby is survived by her children: William Michael (spouse: Cheryl), Sister Jean Tobin Lardie, Stephen Joseph (spouse: Joanne), David Leslie (spouse: Jo-Ann), Mary Michele Melchior (spouse: Dan Melchior), Edith Ann Rose (spouse: Timothy Rose), James Patrick, (spouse: Tirzah), John Terence (spouse: Tom McKenna), and Debbie Fredericks, 19 grand children, and eight great-grandchildren.
