Stephen Fortunato

FORTUNATO, Stephen Matthew, 83, formerly of Steubenville, died Sunday, January 27, 2013, in St. Clairsville.

He was born December 2, 1929, in Mingo Junction, OH., son of the late Mike and Margaret Romano Fortunato.

Stephen was a realtor for Teramana Westling Century 21, and owner/operator of Triangle Sales and Brake Service.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, St. Clairsville; and a former member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church of Steubenville; the Knights of Columbus; National Board of Realtors; graduate of OSU Law School; Jefferson County Board of Realtors; Jefferson County Farm Bureau; Bethany College Fraternity Alpha Sigma Phi; and a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War Era.

Stephen was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Alice Brayton Fortunato, in 2005; and his daughter-in-law, Kathy Fortunato in 2006.

Survived by sons, Stephen J. (Dona) Fortunato, St. Clairsville, LCDR; Michael (Bethany) Fortunato, M.D., Buford, SC; his daughter, Mary Carol (Joe) Shurman, Columbus, Ohio; sister, Clara (Guy) Arcure, Greensboro, NC; nine grandchildren, Adam, Nicole, Joe, Andrea, Nicholas, Christina, Alexandria, Stephanie, and Matthew; four great-grandchildren: Brody, Colin, Camden and Juliana.

Friends will be received 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Beck-Altmeyer Funeral Home and Crematory, 204 West Main St., St. Clairsville, where a vigil service will be held at 3:45 p.m.

Stephen’s Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, St. Clairsville, with Father Thomas Chillog the celebrant.

Military Rites conducted by the Belmont County Council of the American Legion, will follow Mass.

Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Steubenville, Ohio.
