TORONTO — The Toronto City Schools Board of Education will hold its regular meeting at 5 p.m. Thursday. The meeting will take place in the library at the Toronto Junior-Senior High School.

Mingo to hold Cherry Blossom Festival

MINGO JUNCTION — The Mingo Business Association will host the annual Cherry Blossom Festival at 5 p.m. Wednesday. The event will be held in the Cherry Blossom Memorial Park near the former Mingo High School/Indian Creek Junior High building.

The event, now in its 12th year, is held to honor the village’s schools, past and present.

The Hills Elementary School choir will sing at the event and the school’s fourth-graders will read essays about the district’s heritage.

Officials said the park and festival were created to commemorate the educators and staff of Mingo High School, Harmony, Hills, St. Agnes and Mingo Central schools and their dedication to students and the community. Twenty-seven weeping cherry blossom trees were planted on the former school’s grounds in 2007, while a Wall of Honor was erected at the base with roughly 99 plaques and paving bricks denoting the honorees. Wall of Honor inductions will be held later this year.

Buckeye South sets kindergarten event

TILTONSVILLE — Buckeye South Elementary will host a kindergarten readiness event at 6 p.m. May 9 for parents of 2019-2020 students.

Principal Julie Packer said kindergarten students are assessed every year, but officials will highlight what parents need to know before their child begins class.

“We will be focusing on skills the students should have when they come in August and what they will learn throughout the year,” said Packer.

Officials said they also will show the parents how they can help their child at home.

For information, contact the school at (740) 859-2800.
