Hancock school board discusses superintendent contract

NEW CUMBERLAND — The future of Hancock County’s superintendent of schools will not be known publicly for another week, following a special meeting Monday of the Hancock County Board of Education.

Following an executive session of two hours and 49 minutes, board members returned to announce no decision would be made public on the contract of Superintendent Tim Woodward until the next regular meeting.

The agenda for Monday’s special meeting, posted Wednesday, included the “superintendent evaluation and proceeding actions.” An addendum to the agenda, posted Thursday, included the “discussion and consideration of superintendent contract.”

After coming out of executive session, board members said an evaluation had been completed, with all five board members participating.

“We will not be sharing those tabulation results until our next meeting on Feb. 25,” Board President Michelle Chappell said, adding, at that time, an announcement would be made on Woodward’s contract.

The regular board meeting will be held at 5 p.m. next Monday at the John D. Rockefeller IV Career Center.

The board originally hired Woodward in May 2017, agreeing to a two-year contract and a salary of $110,000 per year.

Prior to coming to Hancock County, he served as the superintendent of Calhoun County Schools.

In other business Monday, members voted 5-0 to approve Thomas Ellek and Robert Hans as substitute bus operators, effective this school year, pending favorable fingerprints. The board also approved, 5-0, a half-dock day on Feb. 20 for Loueva Truax, a cook at Weir High School, for personal reasons.
