Baskets of giving

Mingo Social Services held its annual Christmas distribution Wednesday at the Village Municipal Building, with more than 300 baskets given to those in need. The event included bags of items for each individual, an array of meat products and presents for children. The United Way of Jefferson County gives funds to the agency to help with the annual Christmas effort, according to Sophie Schoolcraft, social services director. Along with many area residents who help with distribution, some members of the Indian Creek Junior High National Honor Society assisted on Wednesday. Some of the volunteers on hand for the distribution were, from left, Judy Eddy, Kristen Wheeler-Kurner, Sharen Kolopajlo, Eileen Nester, Schoolcraft, Kathy DiBenedetto and NHS eighth-graders Keirsten Gundrum, Grade Billy Kovalchik and Jayden Vandeborne. Schoolcraft thanked Riesbeck’s grocery stores and the Wal-Mart Distribution Center, adding donations came from around the country.
