Rain delays parade in Toronto

TORONTO — The Toronto Christmas parade has been rescheduled for 5:30 p.m. Sunday due to the heavy rain forecasted for Saturday.

“The forecast is for 100 percent chance of rain on Saturday, so as in the past, we have decided to reschedule,” said Brenda Cich, president of Focus In Toronto. “The rain is supposed to stop by Sunday morning.”

Cich has been coordinating the parade since 2005.

This year’s parade will have approximately 60 units, 14 of which are floats.

“That’s a lot of floats for us,” Cich said. “We usually only have about 10.”

Among those participating in the parade this year will be the Toronto and Edison high school marching bands. And area first reponders also are scheduled to take part.

The parade will begin on Fourth Street at the intersection of Myers Street and proceed to the intersection of Fourth and Main streets, according to organizers.

One of the things that separates the Toronto Christmas parade from other holiday parades in the area is that F.I.T. chooses to hold the parade in the evening, according to organizers.

“Focus in Toronto started holding the parade in the evening to light up the streets to exemplify why we are the gem of the Ohio Valley,” according to the F.I.T. Facebook site.

“We want people to be able to see the lights,” Cich said.
